Resume

I have over 20 years experience working with artists and the public presenting art exhibitions in galleries, schools, public and private office buildings and government centers. From the early 1990’s and into 2001 I served in the volunteer positions of President, Show Chair and Treasurer of the League of Reston Artists in Reston Virginia. During my 4 year term as President, membership grew to over 250 artists, photographers and art patrons.

As a member of the initial Visual Arts Advisory Panel for the Lorton Arts Foundation’s (LAF) transformation of the old DC Correctional Facility at Lorton, Virginia into the Workhouse Arts Center (WAC) I helped envision the adaptive reuse of space, artist’s participation and program and exhibition space. In February of 2007 I came on staff at WAC as Studio Manager to help lay the groundwork for the Workhouse Artists Association. My primary responsibility however was establishing, promoting, organizing and directing the jury process for, and rental of, 7 buildings of all media studios. As artists became part of the Workhouse program I also served as the main liaison between them and LAF staff. In 2008 Exhibition Coordinator was added to my title and until June 2011 when I resigned my position, I was responsible for all aspects of exhibitions in the main gallery building including exhibition themes, schedules, installations and opening receptions. Acting as curator and/or juror for a number of these exhibitions I established a reputation for varied and interesting shows excellently and creatively installed.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I love color and through the use of color, I hope to express my reaction to whatever was the original catalyst. Whether I am responding to the music playing in my studio, my general mood at the moment, or the sights, sounds and feel of the world around me, I strive to represent the essence of my feelings on the canvas. Working with very loose oils, layering and wiping many times I often scribble with a pencil on the wet paint as a sort of explanation point. I feel my abstract oil paintings are really all about emotion.
